The End Of Tesla Motors??

Tesla Motors. Everyone has been writing and posting nothing but glowing, positive articles about the present, and future, of this maverick automotive company. So naturally I’m a little shocked to relay this information:

Ominous signs abound. A quote from the article:

“I came to Tesla with a great deal of optimism to work for a company with a noble purpose that had a real chance to make a difference in the world. That sense of mission and hope generated incredible energy and determination to overcome the many challenges of producing a great EV. This energy has been drained by the cold, irrational bloodletting that has been going on there. Everyone understands necessary, rational cost management actions in startups, but this was neither necessary nor rational. No thought has been given to the immediate and long term impact on the future of Tesla. Entire departments are stumbling around stunned, bleeding, and headless.”

Apparently Tesla is quietly thinning the herd, and others think they may be possibly preparing to close shop.

The Tesla has been the standard-bearer for disruptive innovation in the automotive industry. At last, a high performance exotic car with the driver in mind - that just happened to be electric.

Tesla Motors has had one thing in spades: a vision. And since it was a small startup, it had the ability to create a culture of innovation from the ground up, much like Google did. Challenge assumptions, be daring, do things no one else has done.

If these articles are true, and the predictions come to fruition, this baby will go by the way of the Edsel:

Not sure on the specific merits of the Telsa, but it’s sad to hear of anyone coming this far and having to pack up shop. As a car enthusiast, it looks great, but that wouldn’t be enough to make me look further; I’m not in the market for a new sports car. If they understand their market and have built their vehicle to satisfy the needs of that market, they will stay in the game. How much of their business they are able to retain ownership of might be a different issue.
The problem with us innovators, is that the passion we need to overcome all the reasons why we can’t or shoudn’t do something, can also blind us when it comes to our need to retain some degree of objectivity. Speaking from personal experience, the best thing any innovator can have is a room full of honest (negative) feedback and the aptitude to distinguish between subjective commentary and reality. - The best advice we can have is “keep your passion but sell to whatever market will buy”.
I’ll envisage a Telsa driving down a street near me too, because I’d like to see one and also because positive thought helps. :-)
